Greenhouse Gardening as a Hobby

By Brigitte Smith For people who would like to do more gardening but live in a short growing season area, a hobby greenhouse is the answer. A hobby greenhouse is not large enough to produce vegetables or flowers on a commercial basis. It will, however, give you a place for a tomato plant or two and some fresh greens even if you live in the northern regions. Greenhouse enthusiasts even have their own association, called the Hobby Greenhouse Association, which publishes a quarterly magazine. The organization also sponsers events and helps individuals connect to get help with the aspect of gardening that they are interested in, whether it’s growing cacti or saving seeds. If you are in the market for a hobby greenhouse, there are several types on the market. The smallest type is not large enough to walk into and must be accessed from the outside. It resembles an old-fashioned phone booth made all of glass and outfitted with shelves. This type is designed to fit as many plants as possible in as small a place as possible. The shelves are made of glass to allow as much light as possible to reach plants on the lower shelves. Another inexpensive version of this sort of hobby greenhouse is shelving covered with a zippered tent of clear plastic. This sort of arrangement is great for the small-scale hobby gardener wanting a place to keep her flowers or houseplant starts. There are a variety of designs of hobby greenhouse that are large enough to walk into but made entirely of clear glass or plastic. They are often about the same size as a small storage building. Some independent builders have started making these to sell locally. Among national brands, one of the nicest is called the “Solar Prism.” It is called this because of it’s unique construction. This hobby greenhouse is made of a single piece of durable clear plastic which is designed to work like tiny prisms side by side. They trap the rays of the sun and shoot them back into the greenhouse at all angles. For this reason, these little greenhouses are said to glow when the weather is cloudy. Better hobby greenhouses are equipped with automatic sensors that open vents which allow ventilation and keep the interior temperatures from getting too high. These are a great labor saver, but can get expensive. Another benefit sometimes found in nicer greenhouses is a built in irrigation or misting system. Members of the Hobby Greenhouse Association, or HGA, have invented many interesting designs of greenhouses. If gardening is your hobby, greenhouse growing will interest you. With a greenhouse, you can have the earliest tomatoes and salad greens all year. You can also start seedlings for the main garden early in the spring when outdoor temperatures would kill them. A hobby greenhouse can be a good investment. Find out more about hobbies of all types at the Learn How Guides – where you can learn how to do just about anything! Modern Marketing With Postcards

By Bob Leduc Postcards may be one of the best kept secrets of modern marketing. They produce even better results now than in the past. That’s probably because postcards deliver information the way people want to get it today …fast and with little or no effort. Use Postcards to Generate Website Traffic and Sales Leads A brief captivating message on a postcard with an enticing offer sent to the right prospects will generate a flood of traffic to your website – or a large number of sales leads. Keep your postcard simple. Make it look at first glance like a message from a friend instead of like an advertisement. This creates a pleasant emotional response from readers even though they quickly realize that it is a commercial message. State the biggest benefit you offer to customers. Then briefly add a few other advantages or features you provide. End with a compelling reason for prospects to contact you …or to go to your website for more details. It’s that simple. Tip: Don’t try to close sales directly from a postcard. There’s not enough space on a postcard to provide all the information your prospects need to make a buying decision. People Read Postcards Almost everybody will read a postcard – even those who usually throw out other direct mail without opening it. That’s because it’s almost impossible to throw out a postcard without looking at the message. This high rate of readership is the main reason why postcards produce a bigger response than other types of direct marketing. With other types of marketing you often lose prospects who would have responded to your offer – but they never saw it. Tip: Postcards are an excellent low-cost alternative to email. People get so much email today that even legitimate messages are getting deleted unread. But they get few if any postcards. Your message is guaranteed to get their attention when it’s delivered on a postcard. Postcards are Cheap to Produce Postcards cost less than 2 cents each to produce if you print them using your own computer. You can print postcards individually on blank 4 x 6 inch index cards or print 4 postcards on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of index card stock and cut each sheet into quarters. Your postcards will cost between 4 cents and 9 cents each to produce if you use a commercial printer …depending on the number you have printed and the quality you want. Postcards are Cheap to Mail Even the postage for mailing postcards is cheap – 23 cents each to send them by First Class Mail in the US. The only requirement for this special rate is that the dimensions of your postcards must be at least 3 1/2 x 5 inches but not over 4 1/4 x 6 inches. Tip: Always use a real 23 cent stamp on your postcards. It produces more replies than a printed indicia (imprinted postage) …probably because people associate a printed indicia with junk mail. Don’t overlook postcards the next time you want to drive a huge amount of traffic to your website or generate a flood of new sales leads. They’re simple to use, highly effective and very low-cost. The KG800 Chocolate GSM by LG Phone

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jawahn_Thompson]Jawahn Thompson They say that chocolate is better than cell phones, right? Well, maybe that isn’t the exact adage. Cell phone manufacturer LG must have misunderstood the old saying because they decided to combine the richness of chocolate with a mobile phone model. This phone is highly fashionable with a mirror-like shine that screams “Fifth Avenue.” The sleek, black design of this sliding phone with its glowing red buttons works well as both a women’s accessory or a man’s toy. Its design has actually earned the LG KG800 Chocolate the 2006 IF Design Award in Germany. Good luck keeping fingerprints off it, though. LG brings into the forefront a new keypad feature that uses conductivity, rather then pressing, to activate a button. This is great if you are super careful with your phone but metal objects and wet fingers, or even moistness in the pouch, can damage the sensors. The keypad deactivates when the phone is closed and when you have connected a call to avoid accidental rubbings against your cheek or inside pockets. Slider phones are often mistaken for clam-style but not so with the Chocolate. The sliding mechanism locks when it is closed so there’s no grabbing the top half and yanking it open. The only real problem with the keypad, save the moisture or metal sensitivity, is that the buttons are rather small. Ladies (or men) with dainty, small fingers won’t likely notice this but men (or women) with large fingers and hands most definitely will. The 1-2-3 buttons are difficult to press for large fingers as well, since the top slides up so it just uncovers this top row of buttons. Some users won’t notice, others will. Make sure you test drive it before you sign a contract. Of course, if you are looking into picking up the LG KG800 Chocolate to use as a phone, in addition to a fashion accessory, then you’ll want to know about it’s functionality. The battery life is far less than LG advertises, but that’s to be expected with almost any mobile phone these days. LG claims 16 days standby but you’ll probably only see half of that. Charging the phone requires opening the phone, making it susceptible to damage. You’ll be able to see a wide range of vivid colors on the Chocolate, more than many other fashionable phones. LG offers 262,000 colors compared to just 65,000 on other models. Corners are sharp and images do not suffer from cell-phone haziness. The buttons and menus aren’t intuitive, even if you are familiar with LG devices. Expect to spend some serious time up to 4 hours fiddling around with the phone while reading the manual. For the first few days you might find it a bit cumbersome but you’ll probably catch on pretty quickly. Once you get it down and know how to use it, you will find the menus response time is very fast. This phone isn’t plagued with the slow menus of other phones on the market. As for application features, there isn’t much new here. You’ll get the standard messaging, file browsing, games and a variety of included sounds. You can download more games, MP3s and other music files in addition to ringtones and menu sounds relatively simply. You will get email, a quality-sound MP3 player and a web browser in addition to Java, still photograph and video capture. The phone book holds up to 1000 contacts. The LG Chocolate is Bluetooth enabled. The camera, now pretty standard in the cell phone aisle, is 1.3 megapixel with resolutions up to 1280×960 pixels. There is an integrated LED flash for snapping pictures in low light and a night mode that reduces noise. Use the 2x digital zoom whilst snapping photos or the 4x zoom to crop and resize your images once the photo session has ended. You can also choose from a few color modes, including black & white, negative and sepia. The biggest complaint about the camera mode there is a very noticeable delay between pressing the button and actually capturing the image. Video capture is considerably better than taking still photos. Night mode works on video as do the color settings. The Chocolate also allows for 4x zoom while shooting video. Music files must be in MP3, WMA or mPEG format so it takes a bit of work to load audio from your iPOD to your LG Chocolate. The sound quality is very good for a phone. Standard 3.5mm headphones aren’t compatible, though; you’ll need to either purchase a pair of 2.5mm headphones or an adapter. The FM radio, becoming a standard in the mobile phone industry, was oddly left out of the Chocolate’s applications package. Installed memory is 128 megabytes. If that isn’t enough or you just like keeping your data separate from your phone, you can pick up a 2 gigabyte microSD card for about $100 (often bundled at Verizon for $70 after rebate.) Synching to your computer or accessing email is effortless with the Chocolate. While other phones have intermittent access via Bluetooth, this LG phone has a solid connection. Check your email or surf the web from the caf or Trump’s house. Jet setters will be disappointed with the omission of airplane mode on this phone. Other LGs offer this new feature, it’s beyond me why it was overlooked when designing the Chocolate. So, how did this black, not brown, phone earn its name Chocolate? In the Korean market, where this model was pioneered and debuted, the phone was made to smell of you guessed it chocolate. The name stuck as did the scented design. Apparently LG didn’t like the competition between cell phones and chocolate so they decided to double-team their potential customers by combining the two The LG KG800 Chocolate is a great phone for those on the cutting edge of fashion or those who want to be. Don’t abuse it and you can take calls from your agent for a long time while getting faint whiffs of delicious chocolate. Don’t eat your phone, though, it doesn’t taste as well as it smells. Employee Surveys

By Ross Bainbridge The steady growth and prospects of any company are to a great extent subject to the people working there. The survival and sustenance of the company in the market calls for adequate attention to different aspects concerning the employees. This entails proper understanding of the factors that not only ensures recruitment of skilful people but also their retention. In order to achieve this objective, companies undertake surveys. Given the availability of ample employment opportunities for skilled people, it becomes imperative for the companies to make sure that employees procured do not leave the organization. Attrition in any company leads to loss of revenue incurred in hiring and training of the personnel. So surveys help the companies to get a fair idea of employee satisfaction and their chances of providing continued service to the company. Surveys conducted may be employee commitment, employee recognition, employee motivation and last but not the least employee climate conditions prevailing in the company. The survey starts with preparation of questions related to employee satisfaction level with respect to infrastructure, salary structure, management policies and overall working conditions. The responses derived help to draw inferences as per the adequacy of the organizational system, current state of employee retention, and potential risks to employee retention and thereby strategies to be followed to rectify the loopholes and improve the current situation. Employee commitment surveys are ways of detecting the extent to which employees are committed to the company and the company’s cause and also reasons that are major hurdles on the way of employee commitment .The feedback gathered leads to adoption of appropriate policies that enhance commitment level of the employees. Employee commitment to the organization is in turn dependant on the existence of motivating factors in the form of rewards. Such rewards can be monetary benefits, vote of thanks at a group meeting or individually, letter of commendation or a small-personalized gift. The surveys are done by making the employees fill out forms highlighting how they would like to be rewarded .The responses indicate problem areas that demotivate the employees and the adoption of the measures to rectify them accordingly. Employee climate surveys are used where the intention is to get the feedback of the employees about working conditions and also their receptivity to the proposed changes in the companies such as mergers, acquisitions, launch of new products or services and the relocation of the company. Employee surveys are tailor made for the organization and serve as potential tools for the employees to voice their concerns about staffing, salary, compensation, harmony among workers and other things related to them. It is also beneficial for the companies as it enables them to bring about improvement and gain a competitive edge. Surveys provides detailed information on Surveys, Paid Surveys, Online Surveys, Free Fun Surveys and more. Surveys is affiliated with Employee Exit Surveys. Foods To Avoid That Cause Bad Breath

By Harold Katz Did you know that there are specific foods that may lead to bad breath? This is because of volatile sulfur compounds – the culprit in causing bad breath! For example, if food sits out too long it will spoil. That spoiling action is due to anaerobic bacteria breaking down proteins in that particular food. In milk, the odor of sour milk is caused by relatives of the bugs that create bad breath when they break down proteins in the milk (and basically in all dairy foods). A reaction takes place where ‘the bad breath bugs’ extract sulfur compounds from the amino acids in these proteins. Specifically, the amino acid Cysteine is converted to Hydrogen Sulfide (which has a rotten egg smell) and Methionine becomes Methyl Mercaptan (which smells like a cross between old socks and garlic). The same analogy applies to meat if it sits out too long. Everyone knows that onions and garlic will create bad breath. But do you know why? It’s because the odorous molecules in onions and garlic are actually sulfur compounds themselves called Mercaptans. Sulfur is nature’s way of creating odors. You’re all familiar with the skunk. Its odor is created by a defense and/or attack mechanism. Skunk odor is made up of skatoles, which are naturally occurring sulfur compounds. In a similar fashion, bacteria in your mouth creates the volatile sulfur compounds of bad breath and taste disorders. There are 4 food categories that will result in an increase of sulfur production because these categories have a stimulating affect on the bacteria that cause bad breath: 1. Drying Agents 2. Dense Protein Foods 3. Sugars 4. Acidic Foods Let’s look closely at each of these food categories and how they stimulate bad breath! DRYING AGENTS The most common drying agent in food is alcohol. Alcohol of course, is the basis of all “adult” beverages such as beer, wine, and hard liquor. It is also used, unfortunately, in many mouthwashes you find in the grocery stores, which only makes a bad breath problem worse. Alcohol, known chemically as a desiccant, is used quite often in laboratories to “dry out” hard to reach areas in test tubes and beakers. The same end result takes place in the oral cavity. Although cigarettes are not really food, smoking is probably the quickest way to dry out your mouth, with alcohol being the second. If you smoke, you are bound to have bad breath! DENSE PROTEIN FOODS Dairy foods are notorious for creating bad breath. An article that appeared in the “Los Angeles Times” once noted that over 50% of the population in Southern California was “lactose intolerant”. With regards to bad breath, many of these people (numbering in the tens of millions) end up with more dense proteins available as bad breath fuel for the bacteria than those who have no problem with dairy foods like milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc. The end result is a buildup of amino acids, which are easily converted into volatile sulfur compounds by the anaerobic bacteria found within the surface of your tongue and throat. To a lesser extent, people have the same problem with other types of food that are considered to be dense in protein such as beef, chicken, and fish. Another problem, thankfully rare, has to do with people who have an inability to break down certain proteins found in beans. This condition is called TMA (Trimethylaminuria) and is sometimes known as the “Fish Odor Syndrome,” because the odor produced is similar to decaying fish. The odor consists of sulfur compounds, plus nitrogen compounds (amines). People with this condition must abstain from beans and other types of food that are dense in protein. SUGARS Wouldn’t it be great if we could get rid of bad breath by chewing on M&Ms? Or what if the cure for bad breath were Hershey Kisses? That’s what the makers of Altoids would have you believe. Altoids, and other products of the same ilk, are trying to fool the public into believing that a strong “good” taste in your mouth is equivalent to the “freshness” of your breath. This is so anti-scientific it’s absurd! If you think about it for a minute, it really doesn’t make any sense. By using concentrated mint flavorings, your taste buds pick up mint as a taste. However, Altoids contains two types of sugar which again, are a fuel for the bacteria to reproduce and create more sulfur compounds – thus bad breath. In addition, the frightening part is that other bacteria can take the sugars and produce glycan strands, which in turn end up causing thick layers of plaque on the enamel of your teeth and around your gums. This leads to tooth decay and gum disease – and you guessed it – worse breath than you started with! Since you can’t smell your own breath, you just go merrily along with that great strong mint taste in your mouth, while others close to you are backing away – backing away from your increased bad breath, decayed teeth, and gross, swollen, bleeding gums! Stay away from candies, mints, and chewing gum if they contain sugar! Instead, let me recommend an alternative created by TheraBreath called the TheraBreath Oxygenating Chewing Gum (http://www.therabreath.com/products.asp?CAT=5). It releases Oxygen molecules directly into your mouth and also contains the antibacterial agent, Zinc Gluconate. This agent is found in many cold medications. In addition it contains Xylitol, which is a natural sweetening agent with an anti-decay compound. ACIDIC FOODS Foods with a high acidic content are a problem as well. pH is a term used to describe the acidity of an environment. The oral cavity has a normal pH of 6.5 (7 is considered neutral). Some of the foods you should watch out for are coffee and many citrus juices. Both decaffeinated and regular coffee contain acids. However, tea is okay. Among the citrus juices the ones with the highest acidic content include tomato juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, and grapefruit juice. We know that acids make the bacteria reproduce much faster. In order to decrease the production of odorous sulfur compounds, the acid environment needs to be neutralized. What can you learn from all this? Avoiding foods that contribute to, if not cause, bad breath is vital if you want to have clean fresh breath. While this is a difficult task, being aware of these bad breath causing elements is the first step in developing confidence in your breath. In addition, it is important to use oral care products that are free of alcohol, sugar, and that also have a high pH level. Good Marketing Results

By Jo Ann Joy The first step in preparing your marketing plan is look at where you are today. You must know who is your target customer. You must know the workings of direct and indirect competitors. You must understand your industry and where you stand in it. In order to market to your target customer, you must know who they are, what they want, and what motivates them to buy. In order to understand your competitors, you must know who they are, how they do what they do, and how you are better than they are. In order to understand your industry, you must know its current status, its history, its anticipated future, and any possible trends. Good marketing enhances your brand when you can say what is important about your product in three or four words. For example, Best tasting chicken, A world apart, and Its the real thing. Your brand must be simple and easy to articulate. You can still have a longer tag line, but your brand should be recognizable by a three-four word statement. Think about major brands, and you will see they all use these short, simple statements that relate to their product. The foundation for your marketing should be to deliver a message that helps brand your product and conveys your unique selling proposition. You must know your unique selling proposition, and you must be able to articulate it clearly and succinctly. You can use it to distinguish yourself from your competitors. Your unique selling proposition should be responsive to your customers wants and needs. When you prepare your marketing program, look at how big companies market and learn from them. You must be unique and focused, and you must know how much marketing is required to reach your purpose. You also must know when your marketing has become tiresome to your customers, and they tune you out. While you are conducting a marketing program, watch its results closely. Make adjustments in your program and do more of what works best and stop doing what does not work. Part of determining what works best is determining which marketing efforts get results. You should track the results and determine how much profit is generated from the cost of the marketing program. There are many ways to track results, and online tracking is the easiest. One accurate tracking method is asking customers how they heard about your product. You can also send out coupons for bonus gifts, and you can track the results when customers bring in the coupons. When your marketing program has been successful, you should ask yourself if you can repeat the program. You should also ask yourself whether there were any other factors the contributed to your success. For example, did a major competitor go out of business? You should also ask yourself whether the results will change if you do the marketing at a different time of the year. You should ask yourself how much profit was generated by the marketing cost and look at the ratio. In your industry, should the profit ratio to the marketing cost be 4/1, 6/1, 10/1, or what? The results of good marketing should enhance your brand and create value for your brand. The results should also help you gain new customers and retain existing customers. The results of good marketing should fall within the industry ratio. Really good marketing may result in creating new opportunities and ideas for your company. Senior Dating – Tips for the Men

By Ismael Tabije Despite the many advice and the long years of having relationships with women, many single senior males often louse up on dates. The reasonmost of them try to impress their senior dates the wrong way. It is very untrue that womens standards with men decrease as they age. By the age of fifty, most women have established individualities, strengthened characters, wised intensely, and developed humor. They have been lingering for years to know who they are, what they need and from whom theyd get it. Having grown beauteously, senior women would never settle for anything less. Enumerated are senior dating tips for senior men to guarantee that they dont miss out on the chance of finding a relationship before it even starts: First Impressions Contrary to stereotypes, elder women are generally not into buff bodies and drop-dead gorgeous looks. These women are more into a senior man who knows how to take care of himself and is refined. Decent clothes and an excellent hygiene are essential in senior dating. Designer brands arent necessary. Show good taste by wearing attires that are perfectly fitted and occasionally called for. Having impeccable cleanliness is a plus and please mind your manners. Conversation-wise Intellectual stimulations are a real turn-on. It is an appealing thought for single women to find a knowledgeable potential mate through senior dating. Nothing could be more disastrous than discovering that her senior date knows only about cars and money. No woman would want to end up and spend her after years trying to go down on her companions level, boring herself to death. Having had her share of various kinds of relationships and commitments with different types of men, it would be very unwise for a senior man to be pretentious. A senior womans gut-feel is more sensitive than it had been way back. Never lie. Just like your mom, she would always know. And without batting an eyelash, she would tell you straightforwardly what a jerk you are. Do not brag. A senior woman would definitely take this as a sign of immaturity. A person at a ripe age who has not matured would seem unimaginable and psychologically unstable to her. Having the resources, you need not flaunt your cash around to show her off. Having your date know that you have a decent career and could provide for a comfortable future should be done in a modest way. In senior dating, these tips are of the most basic, and in their simplicity, they are often taken for granted. Single men should put in mind that as women age; they tend to evolve from emotional to intellectual beings. And flattery, if not strategically imposed, would take them nowhere. Older women are independent, self-assured, and wise. So to get the best out of a senior date, regard your date highly and be your best true self. _____________________________ Meet senior travel companions, activity partners and romance wherever you are. Keys to Increasing Employee Performance

By Jan Stringer In any labor market, companies compete to find and keep the best employees, using pay, benefits, promotions, and training. But these well-intentioned efforts often miss the mark. The front-line manager is the key to attracting and retaining talented employees. No matter how generous the pay or how renowned the training, employee survey research shows the company that lacks great front-line managers will suffer. The best managers select an employee for talent rather than for skills or experience, setting expectations for him or her, defining the right outcomes rather than the right steps. The best managers motivate people, building on each person’s unique strengths rather than trying to fix their weaknesses. And, great managers develop people, finding the right fit for each person, not necessarily the next rung on the ladder. Essential to this process is the employment of an appropriate measuring stick, which successfully links customer data with employee productivity, customer loyalty, and profitability. Given the importance of the front-line managers, any effective employee incentive program must begin with incentives specific to the supervisor level. Clearly, the factors that motivate supervisors are often different from the factors that motivate the general employee population. Through the root cause analyses, underlying psychological factors that motivate supervisors within a particular business environment are identified, and appropriate incentives are designed to address those factors. NBRI employee survey research has shown that these factors may be related to one or more of the following categories: Career advancement Money Prestige Public recognition It is not always the case, then, that employee incentives, particularly at the supervisor level, require extraordinary expenditures by management in order to increase employee performance. While most employee incentive programs include a combination of the categories above, NBRI research has clearly shown that recognition, above all, is the most powerful motivator. A major Healthcare Provider was faced with low employee morale, high turnover, and interdepartmental power struggles when they turned to NBRI for assistance. A standard NBRI employee survey instrument was deployed, the data collected, and the root cause analyses conducted. Weaknesses (defined as normative scores below the National Average) included below average employee perceptions of compensation, communications, equipment, teamwork, and overall employee performance. Management could easily spend several years and huge sums of money to address each of these weaknesses, one at a time. However, the root cause analyses identified “My supervisor appreciates my input” as the primary, underlying psychological factor affecting the employee population, which if corrected, would increase scores in over 60% of the issues addressed by the employee survey. NBRI proposed several corrective actions, one of which was the following: Strategy: “Great Ideas” Program 1. Employees submit ideas on how to make the company more efficient, cut costs, or increase revenue. 2. Can be done by paper, email, or via the company’s intranet. Intranet is recommended, as it provides a documentation of the person and time the idea is submitted, eliminating potential conflicts. 3. All ideas will be evaluated. 4. There will be no limit to the number of ideas selected for merit. 5. An idea is selected for merit if, in management’s sole opinion, it should be implemented. 6. All employees who submit ideas of merit that are implemented will receive company-wide recognition and a bonus related to the financial impact of the idea on the company. Again, based on their employee survey data, several strategies were recommended, but this strategy alone accomplished several goals. First, the root cause was addressed by encouraging feedback and upward communication across the entire organization. Secondly, this strategy became the cornerstone of a recognition program that, while open to all, is awarded only to those who earn it. And thirdly, the company’s investment in the program – the bonus – is derived from additional monies that the program itself generates. In support of, and perhaps even more important than the total employee population strategy above, a secondary strategy was implemented for supervisors only. Prestige and recognition is afforded to those supervisors who encourage and develop their employees to ‘think like management thinks,’ in concert with the Great Ideas Program. This takes time, patience, and respect for all ideas on the part of the supervisors, to discuss the ideas submitted by their subordinates in order to train them in seeing the company-wide implications of their ideas. These supervisors, and ultimately, the employees reporting to them, have also attained career advancement, as they have since demonstrated their ability to translate the critical perceptions and attitudes of management into everyday behaviors of subordinates at all levels of the organization. This client is in its fifth year with NBRI, and has moved from a poor performer to near best in class. In summary, most organizations immediately think of tangible items in relation to employee incentive programs for increasing employee performance. Prizes, trips, money, and other tangible rewards can certainly play a part in an effective employee incentive program, and recognition, alone, can often be seen as nothing more than hollow words. However, by conducting employee surveys, NBRI research has proven that it is often the case that the incentive most motivating to employees or supervisors is primarily psychological in nature, and whether it stems from a desire to play a greater role in the future development of the enterprise (as above), or a desire to improve one’s work-life balance, or a desire to see policies executed with fairness throughout the organization, and so forth, it is of utmost importance for employers to first identify the motivational factors that will work best with their human resources, through valid research, and then leverage that information by applying interventions – employee incentive programs – that strike strategically at that root cause. Where the Jobs Are – Q3, 2005

By Timothy Trimble Once again, I’m taking a look at the current status of the programming job market. I guess my biggest interest is in seeing which programming languages are the most popular. Originally, I did an article about this 3 months ago (Decisions! Decisions!) as an exercise to see if where I was headed as a programmer was in tune with where the market is headed. When I go back a look at that article, I’m surprised at where I was heading. At that time I felt that C# was the best direction for me to look into. Well, now we’re three months later into 2005 and I’m in a totally different direction. I guess it all depends on what the client wants and how good the project pay is. ;) While C# still looks like a very good market to be in, I’m currently involved with Java and FileMaker. Well, it’s what the client wants! Anyway, here’s the chart for this quarter. Below the chart I’ll discuss the interesting changes that have occurred just during the past three months. (EZineArticles currently doesn’t support the viewing of tables. But, you can view the table at www.timothytrimble.info under the ART of Software Development blog.) Here’s what I find interesting about this chart compared to three months ago: * VB continues to hold a steady market share. This includes .Net and pre-.Net. There was only a .2% drop in job market share this quarter, which is hardly worth mentioning. VB programmers are still in high demand, especially when they have SQL experience. * Contrary to what anyone says, C++ is still going strong and has gained job market share. This quarter has seen a 1.79% increase in the market. My guess is that this is due to the increase of the Linux market since C++ is the number one development environment for that platform. * The biggest winners in job market share gains is Java with 2.33% increase, MS SQL with a 2.57% increase, and the number one winner is Oracle with a 2.88% job market share. Oracle continues to be the leader in job positions with a 27.74% of the market. * The biggest loser for this quarter is Pearl, which lost a whopping 6.92% of the job market. I don’t know what accounts for this decrease but it appears to be across all three of the major job posting sites. * A surprise loser for this quarter is C#, which lost 2.54% of the market to end up with only 2.95% of the job market. Again, my only reasoning on why this is taking place is due to the impact that Linux is having. Overall, this is a very interesting set of statistics. In no way is this scientific, and it only represents the local job market in Los Angeles. However, it shows that there is a trend in gains for programmers with Linux skills. And once again, if you have experience with SQL, especially Oracle, you’re not going to have any problems at all with getting work. Personally, I feel comfortable being focused on doing Java development. As far as FileMaker goes, well, it would be interesting if I did a comparison between the MS Access and FileMaker markets. I guess that’s a personal nitch of mine that I intend to stick with. Not because of the job market numbers, but because I enjoy the FileMaker and Mac environments. Proof again, that just following where the jobs are is not always the most satisfying approach. Be sure to check back in another three months, when I examine the job market once again. Wedding Cameras: Entertainment & Memories in Your Hand

By Jeanette Shinn Whoever came up with the idea of wedding cameras deserves all the kudos’ we can give them. Think about it. Unless your wedding photographer is also a close personal friend to yourself and your groom as well as of both your families, there is just no way your photographer could know who goes with whom among all of your friends and extended family – but your friends and family do! And unlike your wedding photographer, they can be in more than one place at a time, meaning that with wedding cameras strategically placed on tables around the reception you have a better chance at catching a truly candid moment. You see, unlike your wedding photographer, wedding cameras can be in more than one place at a time, meaning that by strategically placing these festive cameras on tables around the reception you have a better chance at catching a truly candid moment. Wedding Cameras Provide Entertainment for your Guests Better yet, your guests will have fun taking pictures with your wedding cameras. You know how Aunt Martha or Cousin Adriana is when she gets a camera. Even your uncle Frank won’t be able to avoid getting his picture taken. You know that she’ll be able to get friends to pose in some crazy way that your photographer probably never will. This means that your investment in wedding cameras will pay off in entertaining your guests and making your reception a hit as well as in memories. More importantly, you know that she will get a picture of you kissing your Grandmother even if the photographer happens to be in the restroom at the moments. Now imagine how much that benefit is magnified if you have a wedding camera on every table at your reception! Wedding Cameras are Simple to Use Simply place your wedding cameras on the tables at your reception with the table card that comes with every camera explaining that you would like your guests to make full use of the cameras at the reception then leave it on the table when they leave. It’s that simple. After the wedding have someone designated to pick up the wedding cameras and get the pictures developed so you can enjoy the memories when you return from your honeymoon. Wedding Cameras Designed to Match Your Decor Unlike the disposable cameras you can buy at your local discount store, wedding cameras are designed to match your wedding decor. That makes decorating for your wedding reception that much easier and as in most things easier usually means less headaches for you. Want a beach themed camera for a beach themed wedding? Daisies? Silver? Gold?… You get the idea. There is a good chance you can find a wedding camera to fit the decor of your wedding reception. Use Wedding Cameras Indoors or Outdoors When searching for a single use camera make sure it offers 400 speed film. This is important for any wedding because lighting conditions often change and 400 speed film is the most versatile speed available making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. So wherever your wedding is and guests roam the pictures from your wedding cameras will preserve the moment for years to come.
